- To decide when the compost in your compost heap is ready, look for:
- a dark coloured soil
- which crumbles easily
- and you can’t pick out any of the original ingredients
- a sweet, earthy smell.
- If it’s stringy or lumpy, leave it for longer.
Next – Spread the compost in a thick layer.
