Growing plants specifically for their seeds

  • Collect the plant which was lifted in the autumn.
  • Dig a hole twice the size of the pot.
  • Without letting any of the soil fall away from the roots, place the plant in the hole.
  • Fill the gaps around the plant with loose soil.
  • Firm the soil.
  • Water well.
  • Like the other vegetables, the plant will be fed and watered through the summer, but will not be trimmed or harvested.
  • By doing this the plant will produce seeds.
  • Have a label next to the plant which says: “this plant is grown for seeds – feed and water, but do not cut or harvest“.
  • NB Do not use hybrid F1 plants.
